Scottish Dance Theatre perform at Westminster...back to headlines
Posted: 02 May 2008
Two of our dancers, Ruth Janssen and Michal Zahora had a trip down to London this week to perform in a UK-wide Art in Parliament day. The day was presented by the four arts councils of Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales and brought arts in to the heart of the Parliament.

The day was concluded with a series of spectacular dance performances from each of the nations in the atrium of Portcullis house where we performed an extract from the duet, In the Middle of the Moment, choreographed by Uri Ivgi and Johan Greben. The performance went extremely well and was enjoyed by all.

Scottish Arts Council Deputy Chief, Morag Arnot said, 'This day has been an opportunity to communicate to MPs the importance of the arts and to our culture, well being and economy.'

PROBE Dance Company at Dundee Rep NEXT WEEK...back to headlines
Posted: 29 Apr 2008
Here at Scottish Dance Theatre we're really looking forward to PROBE coming to the Rep with their brand-new show, MAGPIE next week. Probe is widely recognised as a sexy, stylish new dance company with two exceptional dancers who commission their own work to perform. Their last work, Have we met somewhere before? was the big hit of the dance scene in 2006 and their new piece,MAGPIE is hotly anticipated.

With a series of seven interlinked duets and solos by different dance artists, ranging from historically important choreographers like Trisha Brown to choreographers who are much of the moment, MAGPIE's movement vocabulary varies from the minimal and intricate to the highly technical.

'Passionate, high quality dance' Metro.

Don't miss this fantastic performance at Dundee Rep, Wednesday 7 May at 8.00pm, BOOK NOW at: www.dundeerep.co.uk or 01382 223530. Tickets from £4 - £12.

Celebrating ten years with Janet Smith...back to headlines
Posted: 29 Jun 2007
This year we're celebrating ten years with Janet Smith as Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre.

Since Janet joined in June 1997, SDT's size and status have grown significantly. We're now touring internationally, we've seen the construction of a brand new £1 million studio and have received the Critics' Circle Award for Outstanding Repertoire (Modern) in 2004.

'There have been some astonishing devlopments at Scottish Dance Theatre where, under Janet Smith's tender guidance, the company has lately emerged as a dance force to reckon with' (Scotland on Sunday)

Descibed as 'a heroine of dance in Scotland' by The Scotsman, Janet has created five pieces of work for SDT and her belief of the company being 'explorers and discoverers of other people's work' has led her to invite and collaborate with choreographers and companies from around the world.

So, as we celebrate ten years with Janet and look forward to the future and all that it brings for the company, we can rest assured that 'whatever happens SDT will not stray from its geographical and emotional roots' (Janet Smith).
