Matilda Bjärum (Apprentice Dancer)
Matilda was born in 1996 in Sweden, where she started her dance journey at LDMG in Lund, where she studied dance and musical theatre for three years. After graduating with a diploma in the “Aesthetic Cutting Edge Program” and a scholarship awarded for “distinguished artistic achievements and professional work ethic” she found a more in-depth interest in contemporary dance and started her bachelor studies at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
During her studies at NSCD, she had the pleasure of working with choreographers such as: Humanhood (ENG/ESP), Vinicius Salles (BR), Vloeistof (NED), Graham Adey (ENG/SWE), Tiia Ourila (FIN/ENG). Matilda also had the opportunity of receiving an Erasmus Exchange Scholarship to study and live in the Netherlands for three months. Where she found and continued on expanding her improvisation practice with her interest in the fusion of games and playfulness in choreographic work. This resulted in her work “Ghost Square” being awarded a place to perform at Yorkshire Dance’s evening BURST (2018), showcasing the creativity of the most promising new graduates.
Matilda joined Scottish Dance Theatre in summer 2019 as an apprentice dancer, part of a postgraduate course in performance through London Contemporary Dance School. Visit lcds.ac.uk/apprenticeships for more information on the programme.
