Head of Creative Learning
Originally from Ayrshire, Dawn Hartley trained at London Contemporary Dance School and joined Michael Clark and Company on graduating in 1986. After worldwide touring, she relocated to Scotland to explore leading dance activities with communities in rural areas. She enjoyed working freelance in teaching, movement direction, choreography and performance across Scotland whilst also working part time for RSAMD Vocal Studies Dept and Edinburgh’s Telford College Drama Dept.
From 1999 – 2007, as Dance Artist for East Lothian Council Arts Service, she worked from Brunton Theatre to initiate an extensive dance programme before joining Scottish Dance Theatre.
Dawn has developed Scottish Dance Theatre’s reputation for offering excellent teaching and relevant Creative Learning engagement opportunities at home in Dundee Rep Theatre and on tour.
She also programmes Great Big Dance Shows and Dundee Rep Dance Festival, showcases of community and youth dance to celebrate this rich art form and challenge notions of who can dance.
