Ballet for Contemporary Dancers
This class is aimed at anyone willing to deepen their understanding of ballet technique in order to discover tools transferable to other dance practices. I will merge the tradition of ballet with the principles of the Feldenkrais® Method to offer a somatic and biomechanical approach to the technique.

The goal of this class is to encourage a sustainable dance practice, working with pleasurable, economical and anatomically adapted movements to minimise the risk of injury. We will cultivate an embodied state of awareness as a valuable way to attend the body, developing deep listening and fine tuning to learn about our own movement patterns, tendencies and styles, underlying equally forces and fragilities We will talk about the structure of the body to find a functional and well organised movement in accordance to our needs. Insisting upon musicality, dynamics and imagery, we will colour our dance and create space for new experiences.

Tue 12 March
6.30pm-8pm with Maria Vincentelli
SDT studio at Dundee Rep

This will be a release based class which focuses on the natural rhythms of flow and fluidity we all have in our bodies, using length and spirals, the fall and catch, and the pouring and anchoring of our weight to move us through space. This is a chance to take playful risks with your own movement and indulge in our natural responses to different types of music.

Maria trained at LABAN and London Contemporary Dance School. As an apprentice Maria performed as the Queen in BalletLORENT’s fairytale production of Rumpelstiltskin, is a resident performance artist for Cheeseburn Grange in Northumberland and has recently been working with musician Ash Koosha on YONA, a performance using motion capture technology. Her personal movement practice is inspired by the concept of spontaneity, and how it’s qualities of freedom, humanity, curiosity and playfulness can be applied to both improvisation and set movement, and help us to find our own voice as performers.
