After a rather hectic summer with tours to South America and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Scottish Dance Theatre is back home at Dundee Rep. As autumn settles in the city, we welcome you into our new season.
September has started (literally) on the road. Travelling more than 570 miles across the country, the company has been presenting the immersive performance Looping: Scotland Overdub in rural venues in Moray, Aberdeenshire and the West coast of Scotland.
The tour has left us with some unforgettable experiences: travelling across the autumn landscape, performing in village halls and meeting audiences up close... It also brought us to develop a new performance format: MEET Scottish Dance Theatre, an evening hosted by Artistic Director Joan Clevillé showcasing short works by company dancers and a selection of extracts from our repertoire, giving an insight into the company’s life in the dance studio and on stages the world over.
Process Day & The Circle
18-19 Oct, 8pm - Dundee Rep Theatre
Back in our studio at Dundee Rep the company is now preparing for our next double bill programme, featuring the dark, atavistic world of Sharon Eyal’s Process Day and the intricately fast-paced The Circle by Emanuel Gat. The tour will be a rare opportunity to see the work of these three contemporary masters in one evening, and will include stops at London’s iconic dance theatre The Place and Tramway’s Dance International Glasgow. Check our website for more details.
In collaboration with the Festival of the Future, we are holding a pre and post-show discussion on Friday 18 Oct with Scottish Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Joan Clevillé and neuroscientists from the University of Dundee, who have been working together to discover more about the physicality of dance and the brain activity of dancers and audience members. How do dancers process imagery in order to access different movement qualities? How does an audience have the capacity to feel what the dancers feel, empathise with them and understand their feelings? This event will give you a fascinating insight into the hidden connections between performers and their audience.
Pre-show discussion: 7-7.30pm
Post-show discussion: 9.40-10pm
